Q and A with Adrian Hon, CEO of Six to StartIt's impossible to get fit with apps that can only track calories and give suggestions on ancient exercises until the Zombies, Operate! app came along, it's a fitness game that emerges players to get part of their own running adventure in a zombie apocalypse world. I was hooked from the instant my first mission started as runner five. It's practically impossible to get myself to put on my running shoes, but after I downloaded the app Zombies, Operate! I've been looking forward to it everyday. I've been exchanging emails with the CEO and Co-Founder of Six to Start so I could get a little more insight about this awesome game for running and the person behind it. What made you come up with the idea for the Zombies, Operate! app? A: The idea came from two places - firstly, running didn't come naturally to me when I was in my 20s, and I had to use all sorts of gadgets and apps to motivate me to do it. One of the things I was surprised about was the fact that there weren't any running *games* that made the act of running more fun, so I'd always wanted to do something about that. Secondly, our co-creator and writer Naomi Alderman is more of a novice runner, and when she joined a running club, they asked people why they wanted to operate. Some people wanted to lose weight, others wanted to get fit - and one person said she wanted to escape the zombie apocalypse. We put two and two together, and got Zombies, Operate! Did you ever expect it to have such a large number of players? A: Nope! We thought it could be very successful but I don't think we were expecting to get the sales we did, which are now at 300,000 and still going strong. Have you noticed an increase in sales during the New Years? A: Yep. Very much the time of the yr for people wanting to get fit and start on New Year's Resolutions. If you could change one thing about the game what would it be? A: I wish we had more time to work on it! There's a lot of things we'd like to improve, but the fact is we think the core game play experience is still really good. What is your favorite feature of the game? A: The level of immersion and motivation you get when you're out running. I've played the game a lot of times and I still get a burst of adrenaline when I'm starting a mission. Is this game for any level of runner? Or is it more for beginners or advanced runners? A: It's for every level. You can operate 20k in the game, or you can just walk a couple of kilometers if you like, especially since the zombie chases are based on relative speed increases, not absolute speeds. We also have a "Zombies, Operate! 5k Training" app out now as well. Who is the target audience for the game? A: Everyone who wants to get fitter than they are right now! We have young players, old players, people from all walks of life. We made it deliberately inclusive. Is there anything else in the works like this fitness app game that we should be looking forward to? A: Zombies, Operate! 2 is the thing we're working on at the moment, and it should be pretty good! If you're interested in purchasing Zombies, Operate! or Zombies, Operate! 5k it is available on the android and apple market for a special new year's discount price of $3.99 for Zombies, Operate! and $1.99 for Zombies, Operate! 5k.
